HARRY WURZBACH HIGHWAY

Lawyer, county judge and first native Texan elected to Congress, Harry McCleary Wurzbach (1874–1931) was already a practicing attorney when he enlisted as a private in the Texas Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish-American War. After he returned to his law practice in Seguin and later, when he was elected to Congress in 1920, Wurzbach did much for veterans of that war. Veterans’ wives and widows pushed to have this road named for him. Relatives of his older brother William Wurzbach spoke against this because there was already a Wurzbach Road (p. 46) on the northwest side of town, and they thought it would be confusing to have a road on the northeast side with the same name. They lost the argument, but they were right.  It is confusing.
